Elevation views — your home, straight on

Four straight-on exterior views of your building with real dimensions — viewable in the app and exportable for permits or contractors.

3 min readUpdated 2026-09-18

A floor plan looks straight down; an elevation looks straight at each side of the building — the drawing a permit office or builder expects. RoomSketch3D draws all four elevations for you, with the windows, doors, and wall heights dimensioned.

This page covers opening the elevation views, renaming the sides, and exporting them.

What you'll need

  • •Any design with walls — multi-floor designs show the full stacked façade

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open Elevation Views

In the top toolbar (desktop), click the Elevations button — the little building icon next to the 3D view button.

  2. 2

    Flip through the four sides

The four sides open as tabs (labeled by direction until you rename them). Windows, doors, garage doors, balconies, railings, and bulkheads all appear where they'll really be.

A straight-on elevation with heights and widths dimensioned.
  3. 3

Rename the sides to match your lot

Call them Street side, Garden side — whatever matches reality. The names carry into your exports.

  4. 4

    Export

Export elevations with dimensions in color, black-and-white, or PDF — or include them as extra pages when printing your plan.

Tips

Name the sides for your lot

Rename front, back, left, and right to something meaningful — street side, garden side — so the set reads clearly to whoever receives it.

Export the full set

Elevations go out in color, black-and-white, or PDF, with dimensions. Send the plan (looking down) and the elevations (looking across) together for a complete package.

Common mistakes

Sending only the floor plan

Permit sets usually need elevations too. Generate and export all four sides, not just the plan view.

Skipping the wall heights

Elevations carry the wall and ceiling heights. Set those correctly in the plan first so the elevations come out right.
