Setting wall and ceiling heights
Give walls different heights — or different heights at each corner — to model vaulted ceilings and sloped roofs in the 3D view.
Wall height (which is also the ceiling height) defaults to 8 feet — the residential standard. Change it per-room, per-wall, or per-vertex for sloped roofs.
Step by step
- 1
Change room ceiling height
Select the room (click an empty area inside the room). Inspector → Ceiling Height. Type the value (typically 8, 9, or 10 feet).
- 2
Per-wall height override
Select a specific wall. The Inspector shows its Height — 8 feet by default, with quick presets (9', 10', 11') or a custom value. Use this for half-walls, partial walls, or walls that step up/down.

Per-vertex ceiling heights (sloped/vaulted)
Inspector → Edit Ceiling Heights. Each room corner gets a height. Set different values per corner to create vaulted, sloped, or shed ceilings. The 3D view renders the resulting slope.
Raising one wall makes the ceiling slope up to meet it — a vaulted ceiling, in 3D.
Tips
8 feet for standard residential
Old homes and tract houses. 9 feet for new construction first floor. 10+ for high-end or formal.
Common mistakes
Half-walls need a height, not a delete
For a pony or half wall, lower the wall's height (say to 42 in) — don't delete it. It stays in the plan as a real half-wall.
Dropping a wall below its openings
If a wall's height falls below the top of a door or window in it, the opening no longer fits and Flow Check flags it. Raise the wall or lower the opening.
Frequently asked questions
What's the standard residential ceiling height?
8 feet (most common). 9 feet for newer construction; 10+ for high-end.
Can I make a vaulted ceiling?
Yes. Use Inspector → Edit Ceiling Heights to set different heights at different corners — the 3D view renders the resulting slope.
How do I make a half-wall?
Select the wall and lower its height — about 42 in for a pony wall. It stays in the plan as a real half-wall rather than being deleted.
Do wall heights show in 3D and elevation views?
Yes — both the 3D view and the elevation drawings reflect the wall and ceiling heights you set.
