Sloped and vaulted ceilings
Each room corner can have its own ceiling height. Use it for sloped roofs, vaulted ceilings, and shed roofs.
By default every room has a flat 8-foot ceiling, but the ceiling height is set at each wall — so by giving the walls different heights you can sculpt a vaulted, sloped, or shed-roof ceiling. The ceiling tilts between the wall heights automatically.
This page shows how to raise individual walls to create the slope, and how the result reads in 3D and in elevation views.
Step by step
- 1
Give a wall a different height
Click a wall to select it. The Inspector shows its Height — 8 feet by default, with presets (9', 10', 11') or a custom value. Each wall sets the ceiling height at its own edge.
Each wall's height sets the ceiling height along that edge. - 2
Raise neighbouring walls to different heights
Set the walls around the room to different heights. Where two walls of different heights meet, the ceiling slopes between them.
- 3
Shed and vaulted roofs
One high wall opposite a low one gives a shed roof; raising opposite walls high gives a vaulted ceiling. Mix heights around the room to sculpt the shape you want.
- 4
Verify in 3D
Switch to 3D View. The ceiling renders the slope you specified, rising across the room.
The vaulted ceiling in 3D — walls of different heights slope the ceiling across the room.
Tips
Shed roof in two heights
For a shed (single-slope) ceiling, raise the walls on one side and leave the opposite side low. The ceiling tilts one way across the room.
Symmetrical vault
Raise two opposite walls to the same height and leave the other pair lower — the ceiling rises to a ridge between them.
Common mistakes
Expecting furniture to dodge the slope
A tall piece won't move itself out from under a low sloped ceiling — Smart Flow Check warns you when something won't fit, so slide it toward the high side.
Dropping a wall below its openings
If a wall's height falls below the top of a door or window in it, the opening no longer fits and Flow Check flags it. Raise the wall or lower the opening.
Frequently asked questions
What's the default ceiling height?
8 feet (96 in). Change it at each wall to create slopes, or set a different flat height for a room.
How do I make a vaulted ceiling?
Give the walls different heights — for example raise two walls to 11 ft and leave the others at 10. The ceiling slopes between them.
Does the slope show in 3D and elevation views?
Yes — the tilted ceiling planes render in 3D and are cut accurately in elevation views.
Can each corner have its own height?
Height is set at each wall (its two ends), so where walls of different heights meet, the corner takes the slope between them.
