Start, switch, rename, and delete your designs
Home is where you start a new design and open your other ones: tap the house button at the top left of the editor to get there. The ⋮ next to the design's name renames, copies or deletes it. Deleted designs wait in the Recycle Bin for 30 days, so you can get them back.
You don't have to close a design to start another one. Home holds everything: the ways to start a new floor plan and the list of all your designs. In the editor, the house button at the top left takes you there, and the ⋮ next to the design's name renames, copies or deletes the design you're in.
Every change saves automatically, so you can jump between designs at any time without losing anything. And if you delete a design by mistake, it waits in the Recycle Bin for 30 days.
Step by step
- 1
Tap the house button to go to Home
In the editor, the house button sits at the top left, next to the RoomSketch3D logo (tapping the logo does the same). It takes you to Home. Your design is already saved, so nothing is lost. (It replaced the old green + button and the Dashboard page.)
The house button: back to Home. - 2
Home: start a new design or open another
Home has three parts: - Pick up where you left off: tap Continue to reopen your last design. - Start a new floor plan: Rectangular Floor Plan (type the width and length), Custom Floor Plan (L, T, U and more shapes), Floor Plan Image or PDF, Use Room Photo, Use Template (ready-made layouts) or From Backup (a backup file you exported; not in the iPhone and Android apps). See ways to start a floor plan for which one to pick. - Your Designs: every design you've made.
Home: continue, start a new floor plan, or pick a design. - 3
Custom Floor Plan: pick a shape or draw your own
Custom Floor Plan opens the New Floor Plan window. Type a name for the design, choose the Units and the ceiling height, then pick how to start under Choose a starting shape: - Draw Your Own (Place corners freely), the wide tile at the top: the main editor opens on an empty plan; tap where the first corner goes, pull out each wall (or type its length), and end on the first corner to close the plan. - One of six ready shapes: Rectangle, L-Shape, T-Shape, U-Shape, Alcove or Round. Each tile shows its starting size. The design is created straight away and opens in the editor. The starting size is only a starting point: tap any wall to drag it, type its length, or split it, and use Add Room or Exterior Wall in the Build panel to grow the plan. See Edit walls on the plan.
Draw Your Own, or start from one of six shapes. - 4
Open (switch to) another design
Under Your Designs, tap any row to open that design (on a computer you can also click the › at the end of the row). The most recently changed designs are at the top. If the list is long, use the row right under the Your Designs title: type part of a name (or a tag) in Search, or pick a tag in the tag menu next to it to show only those designs. The box at the start of that row ticks every design shown, and the two-tag icon at its end opens Manage tags. See Organize your designs with tags.
Tap a row to open that design. - 5
Rename: tap ⋮ next to the name
Designs are renamed from inside the editor. Open the design, tap the ⋮ right of its name at the top of the screen and choose Edit design name. (On a computer you can also click the name itself.)
⋮ → Edit design name. - 6
Type the new name and tap the check mark
The current name opens already selected, so just type the new one (up to 50 characters) and tap the ✓, or press Enter. Tap × or press Esc to keep the old name. On a phone the name box stretches across the top bar, with × on the left and ✓ on the right.
Type, then ✓ to save the name. - 7
Delete the design you're in
Tap ⋮ → Delete design.
⋮ → Delete design. - 8
Confirm: Move to Recycle Bin
You're asked Move “name” to the Recycle Bin? You can restore it from Home for 30 days. Tap Move to Recycle Bin. The design leaves your list and you're taken to Home, where you can open another design or start a new one. Tap Cancel to keep it.
Deleting moves the design to the Recycle Bin. - 9
Or delete any design from Home
On Home, each row under Your Designs has icons on the right: Tags, Duplicate, Export (download a backup; not shown in the iPhone and Android apps) and the trash can. Tap the trash can. There's no extra question: the design goes straight to the Recycle Bin.

Changed your mind? Tap Undo
Right after you delete from Home, a note at the bottom says “name” moved to the Recycle Bin, with an Undo button. Tap Undo and the design is back in your list, exactly as it was.
Undo puts the design straight back. - 11
Get a deleted design back from the Recycle Bin
When something is in the bin, a Recycle Bin button (with the number of designs in it) appears below Your Designs on Home. Tap it to see every deleted design, when it was deleted and how many days it has left: - Restore puts the design back in your list exactly as it was, tags included. - The trash can deletes that design forever (it asks first). - Empty Recycle Bin deletes everything in the bin forever. Designs stay in the Recycle Bin for 30 days, then they're deleted for good.

Copy a design instead (Duplicate)
Want to try a different version without losing the original? Tap the copy icon on a design's row on Home (the copy appears in your list), or ⋮ → Duplicate in the editor for the design you're in (on a computer the copy opens in a new browser tab). The copy is called “name (Copy)” and keeps the original's tags, so rename it straight away. More in duplicate or copy a floor plan.
The copy icon makes an independent copy. - 13
On a phone
Same buttons, same places: the house at the top left of the editor and the ⋮ right of the design's name. The ⋮ menu has Edit design name, Duplicate and Delete design.
Phone: ⋮ next to the name. - 14
Home on a phone
Home on a phone shows the same parts, stacked: your last design with Continue, the six ways to start, and Your Designs. Under the Your Designs title, one row holds the select-all box, Search, the tag menu (a tag icon on a phone) and the Manage tags icon. Tap a design's row to open it, or use the icons on the right to tag, copy, download or delete it. The Recycle Bin button sits below the list when something is in it.
Phone: Home with Your Designs and the Recycle Bin.
Tips
Name designs as you go
“Kitchen remodel - Option B” is much easier to find later than three designs called My Design. Rename right after you create or copy a design.
Back up anything you want to keep for good
The Recycle Bin keeps a deleted design for 30 days. For a copy you can keep forever, tap the download icon on its row on Home (or Export / Print / Share → Backup) on a computer. The file can be brought back any time with From Backup on Home. See export a backup.
Try ideas in a copy
Duplicate a design before a big change, then experiment in the copy. Your original stays untouched.
Common mistakes
Looking for a Save or Close button
There isn't one. Every change saves automatically, so just tap the house button and open or start the next design.
Looking for the green + or the Dashboard
Both were replaced by Home. The house button at the top left of the editor takes you there.
Emptying the Recycle Bin too soon
Delete forever and Empty Recycle Bin can't be undone. If you're not sure, leave the design in the bin: it's deleted for good only after 30 days.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make another design when I already have one open?
Tap the house button at the top left of the editor to go to Home, then choose one of the Start a new floor plan options. Your current design is already saved and stays in Your Designs.
How do I go back to a design I made earlier?
Go to Home (the house button in the editor) and tap its name under Your Designs. To reopen the last design you worked on, tap Continue at the top of Home.
How do I rename a floor plan?
Open it, tap ⋮ next to its name at the top, choose Edit design name, type the new name and tap ✓. On a computer you can also click the name itself.
Can I get a deleted design back?
Yes, for 30 days. Deleting moves a design to the Recycle Bin. Right after deleting from Home, tap Undo; later, open Recycle Bin below Your Designs on Home and tap Restore. After 30 days, or if you choose Delete forever or Empty Recycle Bin, it's gone for good.
Where is the Recycle Bin?
On Home, below Your Designs. The button only appears when something is in the bin, and shows how many designs are in it.
Is there a limit on how many designs I can have?
No. Make as many designs and copies as you like.
Why don't I see the download icon on my phone?
Backup files can be exported from the website only (app.roomsketch3d.com on a computer). Your designs are the same everywhere, so open the design there and download its backup.
