Exporting your design as a JSON file
A JSON export is a complete, portable copy of a design — the same file the JSON import reads. Use it as a backup or to move a design somewhere else.
A JSON export is the complete, portable copy of a design: every floor, wall, door, window, piece of furniture, material and setting, in one small file. It's the format for a backup you keep yourself, for moving a design to another account, and for sending an editable copy to someone (a public link is view-only).
The export is in the Export / Print / Share menu as Export for backup. Re-import it any time with New Design → From Backup.
Step by step

Open Export for backup
With the design open, click Export / Print / Share in the top bar and choose Export for backup — the JSON option. (The other items export images, PDFs, DXF or a GLB model; those aren't re-importable.)

Confirm the export
The dialog explains that the file is a complete, re-importable snapshot of the design. Press Export. The file is named after the design and saves to your downloads; typical size is 50–500 KB.

Keep it somewhere safe
You're back on the plan; the JSON is on your device. Put it in cloud storage or email it to yourself. Nothing on your account changed — the design keeps saving to the cloud as usual, the file is an extra copy.

Re-import later
From the New Design window choose From Backup (Import from RoomSketch3D Files), pick the file, and press Import Design. It opens as a new design with everything intact — floors, furniture, materials and settings. See Import a JSON file.
Tips
Before big changes
Export a JSON before you gut a layout. Undo covers the session; the file covers you across sessions and accounts.
Sharing an editable copy
Send the JSON to a designer or a friend with their own account. They import it and edit their own copy; yours is untouched.
Common mistakes
Expecting images or photos inside the file
The JSON holds the plan's data, not traced photos or exported images. Keep those separately.
Editing IDs by hand
The file is plain JSON and you can adjust dimensions or labels, but changing item IDs can break the import.
