Importing a design from a JSON file
A JSON file is a complete, portable copy of a design. Import one to restore a backup or bring a design onto another account.
A JSON file is the complete, portable copy of a RoomSketch3D design — every floor, wall, opening, piece of furniture, material and setting. Import one to restore a backup, move a design between accounts, or open an editable copy someone sent you.
The import lives on the New Design window as From Backup. It creates a new design on your account; the file itself is unchanged.
Step by step

Open From Backup
From the Create New or Select Floor Plan window (the + button, or the dashboard), choose the From Backup tile — Import from RoomSketch3D Files.

Pick the file
Choose the .json file. The design name is read from the file and filled in — change it if you like — and a preview confirms what's inside.

Import Design
Press Import Design. The plan opens in the editor with every floor, piece and material in place, saved to your account like any other design. The original file is untouched, so you can import it again later.

Check it in 3D
Press View in 3D to confirm everything came through — floors, walls, furniture and finishes all travel in the file.
Tips
Moving between accounts
Export from one account (Export / Print / Share → Export for backup), sign in to the other, import. Both accounts then have their own independent copy.
Older files
Files exported by earlier versions import fine; the app upgrades the structure on the way in.
Common mistakes
Importing the wrong kind of file
From Backup takes RoomSketch3D JSON only. For a floor-plan image or PDF use the Floor Plan Image or PDF tile; for a photo of the room use Use Room Photo.
Expecting images inside
Traced photos and exported images aren't in the JSON — only the plan data.

What's in the JSON file?
Everything that defines the design — floors, room geometry, walls, doors, windows, furniture, materials and settings. No images.
Does importing overwrite anything?
No. It creates a new design on your account. The file is unchanged and can be imported again.
Can I import a file someone else exported?
Yes — that's how to get an editable copy of another person's design. Public links are view-only; JSON is editable.
Can I edit the JSON by hand?
Carefully. It's standard JSON; dimensions, positions and labels are safe to change. Don't change IDs.
