Walk mode in 3D

Walk mode = first-person camera. WASD on desktop; on-screen joystick on mobile. Best way to check sightlines and clearance.

Walk mode puts you inside the plan at eye level — the best way to check sightlines, doorway widths and how a layout feels to move through. It's the same on every platform: keyboard and mouse on a computer, an on-screen joystick and a drag-to-look gesture on a phone or tablet.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Enter walk mode

In the 3D view press the footprints button (Walk through) at the bottom right. On a plan with more than one room you first get the room beacons — click the room you want to start in. A hint stays at the top of the screen the whole time: WASD to move · drag to look · Shift to run · Esc to exit.

  2. 2

    Move: W A S D or the arrow keys

W / ↑ forward, S / ↓ back, A / ← step left, D / → step right. Walls stop you and doorways let you through, so you get a real sense of how the plan flows.

  3. 3

    Look: drag

Hold the mouse button (any button) and drag: sideways turns you, up and down tilts your view. On a phone, drag anywhere on the screen with one finger.

  4. 4

    Run: hold Shift

Hold Shift while you move to go twice as fast — handy for crossing a large floor.

  5. 5

    The joystick

The round pad at the bottom left is the joystick. On a phone or tablet it's how you move: drag the green knob in any direction and you walk that way; let go to stop. It works with a mouse on a computer too.

  6. 6

    Exit

Exit walk-through at the bottom (or Esc) takes you back to the room beacons on a multi-room plan, or to the orbit view on a single-room plan. The red ✕ at the top right returns to the 2D plan.

Tips

Walk the whole home

Start at the front door and walk every room. Sightlines, doorway angles and tight passages show up here long before they would on paper.

Check heights

Walk mode is at a standing eye height, so counter, window-sill and shelf heights read true.

Common mistakes

Typing WASD with the search box focused

If you came straight from the catalog, click the 3D scene once so the keys go to the walker.

Pressing Esc to leave 3D

Esc only leaves walk mode. Use the red ✕ for the plan.

Frequently asked questions

How do I start walking?

In 3D press the footprints button (Walk through); on a multi-room plan click the room beacon you want to start in.

What are the keys?

W/A/S/D or the arrow keys to move, drag to look, Shift to run, Esc to exit.

How do I walk on my phone?

Drag the joystick knob at the bottom left to move, and drag anywhere else on the screen to look.

Can I walk through walls?

No — walls block you and doorways let you through, so the walk reflects the real plan.

How do I get out?

Exit walk-through (bottom of the screen) or Esc; then the red ✕ to return to the 2D plan.
