Keyboard shortcuts

On a computer: Ctrl+Z / ⌘Z undo, Delete removes the selection, Ctrl/⌘+C and V copy and paste a selection (furniture, walls, or a whole room), the arrow keys nudge, R rotates, Escape cancels, and W A S D walk in 3D. The full list is below.

These shortcuts work in the editor on a computer, in any browser. Ctrl on Windows is ⌘ Cmd on a Mac; either works on both. Shortcuts are ignored while you're typing in a box (a name, a length, the search), so typing never moves or deletes anything by accident.

The ones worth learning first are the five you'll use in every session: Ctrl+Z to undo, Delete to remove, Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V to copy a piece or a group, the arrow keys to nudge, and R to turn. The screenshots below show each one on the Cozy Living Room template; the toolbar tooltips also name the shortcut (hover Undo and it reads Undo (Ctrl+Z)).

What you'll need

  • •A computer with a keyboard (on a phone or tablet, use the on-screen buttons)

In this guide

  1. 1

    Undo, delete, copy and paste

    - Ctrl+Z (⌘Z): Undo the last change - Ctrl+Shift+Z (⇧⌘Z) or Ctrl+Y (⌘Y): Redo - Delete or Backspace: Delete what's selected: a piece of furniture, a door or window, stairs or steps, a pillar, a wall, a balcony, a sunken or raised area, a floor hole, a beam, a yard zone, a circuit line, or everything in a multi-selection - Ctrl+C (⌘C): Copy whatever is selected: furniture, interior walls and structure, or a boxed room with its outside walls - Ctrl+V (⌘V): Paste: the copies land in the nearest clear floor, already selected so you can drag them into place More on these: Undo and redo and Select, copy, paste and delete. Copy works on the whole selection, so the fastest way to furnish a row of identical pieces — dining chairs, bar stools, office desks — is to place and style one, copy it, and paste as many times as you need. Each paste lands on the nearest clear floor; drag the selected copies into place. The Clipboard button at the bottom right shows how many pieces you've copied.

Ctrl+C, then Ctrl+V: the copies land on clear floor, already selected (3 selected — drag to move), and the toast says 3 copied to clipboard.
  2. 2

    Select several pieces

Shortcuts act on whatever is selected, so selecting a group first makes them much more useful. Turn on Select multiple (the dashed-box button in the toolbar, drag a box, or click items), then click each piece or drag a box over empty floor around them. The bar at the top says how many are selected. Now Delete removes them all, Ctrl+C copies them all, and dragging any one moves the group together. Escape clears the selection; a second Escape leaves multi-select. A box that starts on top of a rug selects the rug and starts dragging it; start the box on empty floor, or click the pieces one by one.

Select multiple (the dashed-box button in the toolbar): click each piece, or drag a box around them. The blue bar offers Delete, Copy, Arrange and Paste.
  3. 3

    Move, rotate and deselect

    - Arrow keys: Move the selected piece 6″ (about 15 cm) per press - Shift + arrow: Move it 1″ per press, for fine positioning - R: Rotate the selected piece 5°; a picture, mirror or TV on a wall tilts 5° instead - Shift+R: Rotate (or tilt) 5° the other way - Escape: Cancel the tool you're in, or deselect. In multi-select, the first Escape clears the selection and the second leaves multi-select. It also closes open menus and the Layers sheet, and leaves room focus - Mouse wheel / trackpad scroll: Zoom the plan in and out around the pointer The arrow keys move along the screen, so ↑ is always up even when the plan view is rotated. Rotating with the handle instead: drag the round handle on a selected piece and it turns in 1° steps, snapping softly to 0°, 45°, 90° and so on when you come within 3°. Hold Shift while you drag the handle for a completely free angle. For an exact number, type it in the Rotate box of the piece's panel; the 90° button next to it turns a quarter turn at a time. Panning: hold Shift and drag on an empty part of the plan to slide the view (or just drag empty floor).

R three times: the chair turns 5° per press, from 90° to 105° (the Rotate box shows the angle). Flow Check notices it now crowds the coffee table.

    Drawing and editing walls

    - Type a number with a wall selected: Opens its length box with that number already typed; press Enter to apply. See Set an exact wall length - Type a number while drawing outside walls: Sets the length of the wall you're drawing - Backspace or Delete while drawing outside walls: Removes the last corner - Escape while drawing new outside walls: Leaves the tool and keeps the walls you've drawn, the same as closing the tip with ×; the plan closes back to them with an open edge. Before the first wall (or while drawing a brand-new plan's first outline) it clears the drawing and starts again - Hold Shift while drawing an interior wall, placing stairs or using the tape measure: Switches the straight-line lock (0°, 45°, 90°) off, or on if Free angle is ticked - Hold Alt (⌥ Option) while dragging a wall: Does the opposite of the joined-walls setting for that one drag: walls joined to it come along, or stay put - Hold Ctrl (⌘) while dragging a wall or its end: No snapping at all, for a deliberately off-grid position

With a wall selected, typing 1 then 5 opens its length box with 15 already in the feet box; Enter applies it. The pin marks the end that stays put.
  5. 5

    Drawing circuit lines

    - Enter: Finish the line (same as clicking the first point or double-clicking) - Backspace: Remove the last point you placed - Escape: Cancel the line you're drawing; press again to leave the tool

  6. 6

    3D view and walk mode

    - W A S D or the arrow keys: Walk forward, left, back and right - Hold Shift while walking: Walk twice as fast - Mouse drag: Look around - Mouse wheel / trackpad scroll: Step forward or back - Escape: Leave walk mode (or Dollhouse) and go back to the 3D overview See Walk mode in 3D.

Walk-through: the hint repeats the keys — WASD to move, drag to look, Shift to run, Esc to exit. The joystick at the bottom left does the same with a mouse or a finger.

Tips

Nudge, then check

Arrow-key moves are saved like a drag, so one Ctrl+Z undoes a nudge. Hold Shift for 1″ steps when lining a piece up with a wall.

Type a wall length without clicking a box

Select a wall and just type the number: the length box opens with your digits in it. Press Enter to apply, Escape to cancel.

Copy once, paste many

Ctrl+V can be pressed again and again; each paste lands on clear floor. Style the first piece before you copy, so every copy has the same fabric and colour.

Right-click for more

With a mouse, right-click on the plan opens a menu of actions for what's under the pointer.

Common confusions

Pressing keys while a box is active

If Delete or an arrow key seems to do nothing, a text or number box probably still has the cursor. Click an empty part of the plan first.

Pressing R with nothing selected

R and the arrow keys only act on a selected piece. If nothing turns, click the piece first; in multi-select, use the bar's Arrange menu (Line up in a row, Line up in a column) to line a group up instead.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a keyboard shortcut to delete furniture?

Yes. Select it and press Delete or Backspace.

How do I nudge furniture with the arrow keys?

Select one piece and press an arrow key: 6″ per press, or 1″ with Shift held.

What's the shortcut to rotate furniture?

Press R to turn the selected piece 5°, Shift+R to turn it back. For exact angles, type the degrees in the piece's panel.

Do the shortcuts work on a Mac?

Yes. Use ⌘ where this page says Ctrl (Ctrl also works).

Are there shortcuts on a phone or tablet?

No keyboard shortcuts on a touch screen: use the Undo and Redo arrows in the toolbar, the trash can on a selected item, and the joystick in walk mode.

How do I rotate to an exact angle like 45°?

Drag the rotation handle: it snaps to 45° when you come within 3°. Or type 45 in the Rotate box of the piece's panel. Hold Shift while dragging the handle for a free angle.

Is there a shortcut to pan the plan?

Hold Shift and drag on an empty part of the plan, or drag empty floor. The mouse wheel or a trackpad scroll zooms around the pointer.

Can I change or add shortcuts?

Not at the moment; the keys on this page are fixed.
