Hand your plan to a pro — AutoCAD DXF export

One click produces a layered, dimensioned CAD file your architect or contractor can open directly in AutoCAD.

When a project moves from planning to building, the pros ask for CAD. RoomSketch3D exports DXF — the layered CAD format — with double-line walls, openings, furniture outlines, and real dimensions, each on its own layer at true scale.

This page covers exporting a DXF and what the file contains.

What you'll need

  • •A design you're ready to hand off
  • •The web app on a computer

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open Share / Export

On your computer, open the Share / Export dialog from the top toolbar.

  2. 2

    Choose Export to DXF

Pick Export to DXF in the menu. A short explainer confirms what the file contains, then it downloads with your design name.

Everything for getting your plan out of the app lives in one menu.
  3. 3

Open it in any CAD app

AutoCAD, LibreCAD, DraftSight, and most CAD tools read it directly — at real-world scale, with layers for walls, openings, furniture, and dimensions.

Tips

Layers come through

Walls, openings, furniture, and dimensions land on separate layers, so your contractor can turn any of them off in CAD.

True scale, real dimensions

The DXF is at true scale — a wall that's 12 ft in the plan is 12 ft in CAD, with no re-scaling on the other end.

Common mistakes

Sending a screenshot instead

A screenshot has no scale and no layers. For a builder, export the DXF (or a dimensioned PDF), not an image.

Expecting DXF to re-import

DXF is a hand-off to CAD, not an editable RoomSketch3D design. To move a design between accounts, export JSON.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the DXF export?

Export / Print / Share -> Export to DXF.

What's in the DXF file?

Double-line walls, openings, furniture outlines, and real dimensions — each on its own layer, at true scale.

Which programs open it?

AutoCAD, LibreCAD, and most CAD tools open DXF directly.

Is it to scale?

Yes — the DXF is at true scale, so dimensions match the plan exactly.
