Switching between feet and meters

RoomSketch3D works in imperial or metric. Here's where the toggle lives and what it changes.

Updated 2026-06-10

RoomSketch3D works in imperial (feet/inches) or metric (meters/centimeters). Switch from the room setup dialog or from Profile → Drawing Defaults; every dimension updates.

Step by step

  1. 1

    From the room setup dialog

When creating a new room, the ft/in ↔ m/cm toggle sits at the top of the form. Click to switch. The change applies to the current design and is remembered for next time.

  2. 2

    From Profile → Drawing Defaults

Navigate to /profile. In the Drawing Defaults section, find the Unit System toggle. Switch to Imperial or Metric. The change applies app-wide — room sizes, furniture, the Inspector, the scale bar.

  3. 3

    What it changes

Display only — switching units never changes your designs. A 12-foot wall is still 3.66 meters. The wall lengths, room areas, furniture dimensions, and grid all re-render in the new unit; the geometry is identical.

Tips

Set this once and forget it

If you live in the US, Imperial. Most other places, Metric. Set it the first time you sign in.

Frequently asked questions

Does switching units change my designs?

No. Only the display unit. A 12-foot wall and a 3.66-meter wall are the same wall.

Where's the unit toggle?

Profile → Drawing Defaults → Unit System (persistent), or at the top of the room setup dialog (per-design).
