Your first few minutes in RoomSketch3D

The first time you open RoomSketch3D, a few short slides show what it can do. After you unlock it, Quick setup asks for your units and floor names, the guided tour walks you through the editor, and Home shows every way to start your first design. Here's each step and how to move through it fast.

When you open RoomSketch3D for the first time, it doesn't drop you onto a blank canvas cold. A short intro shows what the app can do, and the guided tour walks you through the real editor, so your first design starts with you knowing where things are.

None of it is a commitment. You can move through it in under a minute, take the guided tour before you decide, and change every setting later.

The order is: intro slides → pricing (or the guided tour first) → Quick setup → the guided tour → Home, where your first design starts. The two choices that matter most are in Quick setup: your measurement system and format decide how every length is shown and typed, so pick the one your tape measure and your contractor use.

What you'll need

  • •A RoomSketch3D account
  • •Two minutes

Step by step

  1. 1

    The intro

A set of short slides opens with Welcome to RoomSketch3D · Design in 2D & 3D and a checklist of what you can do. Each slide pairs a short clip of the real app (tap Tap for sound to hear the narration) with a few lines of text: one room up to a multi-story home, letting AI draft a plan from a sketch or blueprint (or tracing it yourself), auto-furnishing an area, starting from a template, placing furniture precisely with the tape measure, previewing in 3D, sharing, printing and exporting, and real support inside the app. The iPhone app adds a slide about scanning a room by walking it with your camera. A progress bar at the top counts the steps. Tap Next to move on, Back to revisit a slide, or See Pricing at any point to skip ahead.

Slide 1 of the intro: a short narrated clip on the left, what you can do on the right, Next to continue.
  2. 3

Quick setup: language, floor names and units

Right after you unlock, Home opens with Quick setup. It asks four things: Language (any of the nine the app is translated into; the popup switches as you pick), what you call the street-level floor (Ground floor, with First floor above it, as in the UK, Europe, India and Australia; or First floor, with Second floor above it, as in the US and Canada), your Measurement system (Imperial, feet and inches, or Metric, meters and centimeters) and the Measurement format used everywhere: dimension chains, furniture sizes and the boxes you type into. Imperial offers Feet and inches (7′ 6″) or Inches only (90″); metric offers Metres and centimetres or Centimetres only. Tap Save & continue. In the iPhone app you may then be asked about notifications.

Quick setup: four choices, all changeable later in Settings. Save & continue moves on to the guided tour.
  3. 4

The guided tour of the editor

Next, the guided tour opens the editor and walks you through it one tool at a time, from starting a project to furnishing and finishing it. Each card says what the highlighted part does. Move with Next and Back, tap the step counter (Step 1 of …) to jump to a section, change the tour's language from the menu on the card, or close it with × whenever you've seen enough. Finishing the tour, or closing it with ×, completes your first run. If the app itself is closed part-way through, Quick setup and the tour come back the next time you open it, and on the same device the tour offers to resume where you stopped.

The first tour card. The step counter opens a list of sections; × closes the tour.
  4. 5

Start your first design from Home

With no designs yet, Home shows a welcome (Plan your floor in 2D, see it in 3D) with a Take the guided tour button to replay the tour. Below it are the Start a new floor plan tiles: Rectangular Floor Plan (enter width and length), Custom Floor Plan (L, T, U and more shapes), Floor Plan Image or PDF (trace it yourself or let AI draft it), Use Room Photo, Use Template (pre-designed layouts) and From Backup (a RoomSketch3D file). Pick one and you're in the editor. Under Help & settings are Help & support (guides and answers), Settings (units, floor names, plan style) and About (what's new). See ways to start a floor plan for which tile to pick.

Home before your first design: the welcome, six ways to start, and Help & settings underneath.

Tips

Quick setup isn't final

Floor naming, measurement system and format can all be changed later from Settings on Home. Nothing you pick in Quick setup is locked in.

Watch the intro on any device

The intro and its short clips play on phone, tablet, and desktop, and they're translated: the whole first-run experience follows the language you pick.

Come back to the tour later

The Take the guided tour button on Home replays the step-by-step tour of the editor whenever you want it. See guided tour of the editor.

Common mistakes

Thinking you have to decide right away

You don't. Close the pricing step and take the guided tour first; it uses the real editor, so you can see exactly what you'd get.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see the app before I buy?

Yes. Close the pricing step and tap Take the Guided Tour on the Still not convinced? screen: it walks you through the real editor, tool by tool. RoomSketch3D is a one-time purchase; see whats included how to buy.

What does Quick setup ask?

Three things, so the app matches how you measure: what you call the street-level floor (Ground floor or First floor), Imperial or Metric, and the measurement format. You can change all of them later in Settings.

My Home is empty. Where do I start?

Tap any tile under Start a new floor plan: enter a room's width and length, draw a custom shape, import a floor plan image or PDF, use a room photo, or start from a template. Not sure which? See ways to start a floor plan.

Which measurement format should I pick?

Pick what you'll be reading off your tape measure. Feet and inches (7′ 6″) is the usual choice in the US and Canada; Inches only (90″) suits furniture and cabinet work, where sizes are quoted in inches. On metric, Metres and centimetres reads well for room sizes, Centimetres only for furniture. With feet and inches, size boxes show two fields (ft and in) so a typed number can't be misread. See switch units feet meters.

Can I change the language later?

Yes. The language picker is in Quick setup, on the guided tour's card, and in Settings on Home. RoomSketch3D is translated into English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Hindi, Russian, Japanese and Marathi.

How do I get a step-by-step tour of the editor itself?

Tap Take the guided tour on Home. It opens the editor on a sample plan and walks you through the actual tools. See guided tour of the editor.

Quick setup is stuck or says 'Failed to save preferences' — how do I get past it?

Tap Save & continue again after a few seconds — it needs a connection to save to your account. If it fails again, switch between Wi‑Fi and cellular, or sign out and back in. Nothing here is final: floor naming, measurement system, and format can all be changed later in Settings (the avatar at the top right → Settings). Full checks are in Troubleshooting: black screen, frozen canvas, stuck setup, or connection errors.

Start designing your room

Put this into practice in the floor planner: draw it, furnish it, walk through it in 3D — on web, iOS, and Android.
