Wrap a yard around your home — property lines and fences

Design the lot, not just the rooms: drag the property line to match reality, style each fence edge, and view the whole property in 3D.

Your home sits on a lot, and the lot is part of the design. RoomSketch3D lets you draw the property line around the house, then fences every edge — so you can plan the yard, the fencing, and the driveway opening, not just the rooms.

This page covers adding a yard, shaping the property line to your parcel, and styling each fence edge.

What you'll need

  • •A ground-floor design (the yard attaches to it)

Step by step

  1. 1

    Add the yard

Open the floor picker and choose Add Yard. The property-line editor opens with your house shown as a guide and the boundary ready to drag.

The yard editor — your house stays visible as a guide while you shape the lot.
  2. 2

    Match your real lot

Drag each boundary corner to match your parcel — use your plat map or the county's parcel viewer for the real dimensions — then confirm with Update Yard Plan.

  3. 3

    Style each edge

Select a boundary edge and pick its style — wood fence, chain-link, brick wall, hedge, and more. Mix styles per edge: privacy fence in back, low picket in front.

  4. 4

    Leave openings and add gates

Mark an edge (or part of one) open for the driveway, or drop a gate onto a fence edge like any wall fixture.

  5. 5

See the whole property in 3D

The 3D view pulls back far enough to show house and grounds together — with your ground covers, zones, and outdoor furniture in place.

Tips

Trace your plat map

Drag the property-line corners to match your real parcel straight off the plat or survey. The yard and fences follow the boundary you draw.

Mix fence styles per edge

Each edge is separate — white picket in front, privacy panels in back, chain-link on the side, and leave one edge open for the driveway.

Common mistakes

Fencing the driveway shut

Every edge fences by default. Set the driveway edge to open (no fence) so the car can get in.

Forgetting setbacks

Real fences and structures sit inside required setbacks from the line. Draw the property line to your parcel, then keep the house and balconies inside the setback.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a yard and property line?

From the floor picker choose Add Yard. The property-line editor opens around the house; drag the corners to match your lot and confirm.

Can each fence edge be a different style?

Yes — click any edge and pick its style: picket, privacy, chain-link, or leave it open.

How do I leave a gap for the driveway?

Select that edge and set it to open, so no fence is drawn there.

Does the yard show in 3D?

Yes — 3D shows the whole property: house, grounds, and fences together.
